Maya's New Words.
Our little sweetie made some great progress this weekend. First of all, she has 3 words, which I actually think she understands. They are "Mama," "Daddy," and "more." More sounds suspiciously like "Mama," but she says is as she does the "more" sign, so I actually think she gets it. We are really excited. In addition, yesterday she took her first step. Yes, one, solitary step on her own, which she repeated this morning. She only seems to have the confidence to manage that one step so far, but that's okay. Lastly, her 2 top teeth are on the verge of popping out, though they haven't quite made an appearance yet. I can see the swelling, and I can even see that the actual tooth is right at the gumline, so I'm expecting couple of ridges any day now. Finally!
"I love tunnels. This one is very slippery though."

Maya Mc-Drool-ins
I think another tooth is on its way. You might notice giant ring of drool on Maya's chin and clothes, the likes of which we haven't seen since Maya was 6 months old. While I wish she wasn't so drooly and putting everything in her mouth, I am excited for her bottom row to have some friends on top. I'll keep you posted.
Anyway, yesterday was beautiful. It was 60 degrees here, so we met Nash, Margot, and Brooke at Starbucks for a morning of patio fun. It was so nice out, that when it was time to leave, Brooke and I stood at our cars chatting for a long time before we actually got inside, because neither of us wanted to get in the car and out of the sun. It was a fairly low key day though, and Maya slept a lot, drooled a lot, and played with her new favorite friend - the dishwasher. For some reason, she is positively enamoured with it. As a new venture, she is working on actually climbing onto the dishwasher door while it's open. I'm guessing this is not safe for either the baby or the dishwasher. So far, she hasn't been successful. I guess it's a good thing we don't have stairs in our house...
"Mommy, I'm heading to the dishwasher."
"I love this thing! It's endless enjoyment for me!"
"Look at my tongue. Oh, and also, look at my lovely wet shirt."
"Mommy, when we put our house on the market, don't forget to mention our awesome dishwasher."
"Brooke, you're always fun at Starbucks. Thanks for making me laugh!"

Wanna see my Teeth?
Maya had a blast in her high chair this afternoon. Her teeth are really making an appearance lately. If you click the photos, you can get a good look at her new friends!
"Hilarious."
"I am happy and it feels good..."
"Mama is playing peek-a-boo with me from the doorway. Funny lady."
"This game is silly."

Come on, Maya! Show us your Pearly White!
Nope. She will not, I repeat - NOT - show us her new tooth. I keep trying to give her food, so she'll open her mouth, but I think she's onto me, because she keeps sticking out her tongue and covering the tooth. Boo. I guess the truth will reveal itself soon enough. I suppose once the tooth really starts coming out, I might actually see it. Until then, I'm probably going to keep sticking my finger in there, just to make sure it's really there, and I didn't make it all up!
"My mouth is sealed shut."
"You might notice that my bottom lip is strategically placed over my front teeth, so as to cover and possible glimpse of toothiness."
"I'm taking this flashlight, so you'll stop putting it up to my mouth."
"What so great about a tooth, anyway?"
"Daddy, you don't do self-portraits like Mommy. She's the best."

Celebrate Good Times!
GUESS WHAT!?! Maya has a tooth! Yes, that's right - Maya is proudly sporting a bumpy, sharp tooth, just now poking through her bottom gums. She has been a little whiny and shreiky for the past 2 days, and I couldn't figure her out, so I finally stuck my finger in her mouth tonight, and felt the beginnings of a lovely new tooth. I keep trying to get her to open her mouth, but she won't have any of it. She especially didn't like it when I approached her face with the flashlight.
