Wake Up, Maya B.!

Maya loves when I come to get her in the morning. I usually try and surprise her in bed, and she gets all excited to see me. Recently, our neighbors put 2 little polar bears in red scarves on their lawn. Maya loves looking at them out the window. In the evenings, they are lit up, but during the day, you have to look a little harder. We usually take a look in the morning, right when Maya gets out of her crib. She loves this routine, and will be sad after Christmas, when the bears hit the road.

Best Mood Ever.

Maya had a great night last night. She was at her absolute best. I made her a little polenta pizza at 5:30, but she was still hungry afterward, so I steamed up some corn and carrots and put them on her tray. She proceeded to feast on them for an hour, while Kevin and I ate dinner. She was the most giggly baby - playing peek-a-boo and other silly games while she ate. After dinner we played in our bedroom, singing songs, having tickle fights, and jumping on the bed. Maya had a blast. She was so exhausted at bedtime, she fell asleep in about 5 seconds. I love happy Maya. She is so interactive and funny. Her current favorite game is peek-a-boo. She wants to play it nonstop. I have to admit, I'm really starting to like it, too!

"Mommy, I had fun, but now I'm positively exhausted!"

Daddy Time

For the first 2 nights of sleep training, I was told to leave the house 2 hours prior to bedtime, so that Kevin could Maya to bed. I was a little uneasy about this, partially because I'm exhausted at the end of the day, and enjoy relaxing with Kevin and Maya. I also wasn't sure that Kevin would feel comfortable doing it on his own, since I'm always the one who puts Maya to bed. Well, the first two nights were tough, but apparently, Kevin loves being alone with Maya in the evenings. He never gets a chance to hang out with her alone at home. Usually, when I want alone time, he takes Maya out, and I take a nap at home. This is different though... he really enjoys it! In fact, he loves it so much, he kicked me out last night! Not that I was upset about it. I went to Borders and read a book for an hour, which was absolutely wonderful. Check out one of Maya's favorite games to play with Daddy...

What? You want to know about Night 2??

Last night was the second night of sleep training, and I was concerned that it would be equally as tough, if not tougher than the first night. I spent my 2 hours prior to bedtime, reading and relaxing at Borders. It was wonderful... Anyway, Kevin and I went to sleep by 9, in an effort to get as much sleep as possible, before several hours of night wakings. Well, we got really luck. Maya slept through the night! She woke up whimpering a few times, but she put herself back to sleep like a pro! Go Maya!

"What the heck is on my head? It feels like part of my shirt, but is that even possible?"

"I know, I know - I slept great. Now feed me my breakfast OR ELSE!"

"I'm slowly backing away from the paparazzi..."

Rough Night.

The bad news is, Maya was up for 2 hours, basically crying for about 30 seconds, every 3-5 minutes. It was sad. Kevin was a trooper, and he worked really hard last night. He even got up to go to work this morning. Poor guy. In wonderful news, Maya still loves us this morning. Phew. Brie has promised me that it'll go better tonight (she did the same training with Alex), so I'm holding out hope that tonight will be a breeze.

"Hang on, Mom. I'm just updating the blog."

"Mommy! You've done it again! A perfect family self portrait!"

Sleepy Maya.

Maya is waking up happy as a clam this morning. It's hard to believe, considering the fact that she barely sleeps at night. Right now she's just relaxing next to me, smiling away while she watches the ceiling fan. Last night she went to sleep at 10 - which I loved by the way - and she woke up at 12:30, 3, 4, 5, and then a final wake up at 6. Hmmmmm. She fell asleep in her swing, but then we just slept together on the couch after she woke up at 12:30. I need to stop doing that. I think she's sleeping so poorly because she's next to me. I've got to fix this habit, but I know it means playing the "put her down, pick her up, put her down, pick her up" game. Am I ready to spend an entire night playing the game? I'm not sure...

Today I think we are going to have a low key day. We have some errands to run, and I think we are meeting Nash and Brooke for coffee this morning. I'm hoping that Brook, Jen, and Brie will join us, but they might be busy. We never do this kind of thing on the weekend! It'll be fun. I'm working all week next week, so Maya will be in daycare. I want to spend some quality time with her this weekend, so I don't miss her so much next week!
